Brief History of LIPERD

Linkages Programme, Environmental Research and Development (LIPERD) is a unit under the office of the vice chancellor Federal University Oye-Ekiti. The unit was established by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac U Asuzu on the 12th of May, 2014. The unit is headed and coordinated by Prof. V.I.O. Ndirika, a professor of Agriculture and Bio-resources engineering. Prior to this time this unit were two separate units; Environmental Management and Control Unit (EMAC), and International Linkage unit respectively. The Pioneer vice chancellor of the University, Ven. Prof. O.C. Nebo had instituted these units separately with Prof B.C. Chukwuali as pioneer coordinator for EMAC and Dr Mrs. R.A.O Gabriel-Ajobiewe as Pioneer coordinator International Linkage Office.

EMAC was created on the 1st of march, 2013 and saddled with the responsibility of conducting interdisciplinary research and assessment on environmental management issues, sustainable development and energy systems; to provide educational opportunities for both present and future engineers, scientists and policy makers; to offer research driven-services to industries, corporate organisations and all levels of government- federal, state and local government.

The International linkage office on the other hand was mandated to identify and explore areas of cooperation and linkages with foreign and local institutions. It promotes academic collaboration with local and foreign universities in the form of student and faculty exchange, joint research, exchange of publication, sponsorship of conference and other academic activities. The office is engaged in the initiation, planning, implementation and monitoring of linkage activities.

Upon creation, LIPERD took over the responsibilities of the two units.
